Warren Herlong and Casey Pipes presented a paper at the annual American Law Institute – American Bar Association (ALI-ABA) Eminent Domain and Land Valuation Litigation seminar in Miami, Florida concerning the impact a condemning agency’s taking documents can have on its later use of the condemned property.

John Leach Elected to Membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates

John Leach was elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). ABOTA was founded nationally in 1957 by outsanding trial lawyers from both the plaintiff’s and defendant’s bar with its primary goal to preserve the American jury system. Election to memebership requires high personal character, an honorable reputation and proficiency as a trial lawyer.

Herlong Co-Chairs Eminent Domain Seminar

Warren Herlong Co-Chaired the two-day CLE International seminar entitled “Alabama Eminent Domain and Condemnation” which was held in Birmingham. Warren also presented a paper at this seminar entitled “Partial Takings from the Owner’s Perspective — Severance Damages.” Casey Pipes also presented a paper at this seminar entitled “Condemnation Procedure — Pitfalls.”

Casey Pipes Speaks at NBI Seminar

Casey participated in the National Business Institute’s seminar entitled “Eminent Domain: Legal Update” in Birmingham, Alabama. Casey’s presentation was on the recent case law and legislative changes in the law of eminent domain on both the federal and state level and how those changes will impact owners and condemning agencies in the future.

Casey Pipes Speaks at ABI-CLE Seminar

Casey presented a paper at the Alabama Bar Institute’s Continuing Legal Education seminar on “What Every Real Estate Lawyer Needs to Know” which was held in Birmingham, Alabama. Casey’s topic was on Drafting the Condemnation Provision in a Lease.

Russell Buffkin Speaks at Lorman Seminar

Russell Buffkin spoke at a Lorman Education Services continuing legal education seminar entitled “Construction Lien Law in Alabama” on August 15, 2006 in Mobile, Alabama. The seminar centered on an explanation of the construction lien laws in Alabama and provided forms, techniques and strategies to properly create and preserve construction lien rights.

Andy Stivender Joins Firm

Andy Stivender joined the firm as an associate in August of 2006 after completing a two-year judicial clerkship with Associate Justice, Champ Lyons, Jr., of the Alabama Supreme Court. Andy is a 2004 grauduate, cum laude, from Cumberland School of Law where he served on the Law Review.
