Joshua D. Friedman
Member Of Counsel
A practicing attorney for 16 years, Josh brings a wide array of legal and trial experience to Helmsing Leach. With an emphasis on civil litigation, his expertise includes property management, bankruptcy, finance, and other civil litigation matters.
Josh is married to Marjorie Bridges Friedman, a NICU Nurse at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital. They have four sons and stay busy year-round with baseball, basketball, football, and lacrosse. They are active members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and attend Congregation Ahavas Chesed Synagogue. Whenever they can, they enjoy spending time at the beach or on the bay with friends and family.
Josh is an avid inshore, offshore, freshwater, and fly fisherman. When not in the office or at his kids’ sporting events, he can usually be found on the water. After graduating high school from UMS-Wright, Josh went on to the University of Alabama, where he still enjoys returning to attend Alabama Football games.

Josh has litigated hundreds of cases centered on a variety of issues. Josh handles all aspects of civil litigation, spanning a broad range of areas, including but not limited to bankruptcy, the representation of landlords and property managers throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties, contract litigation, banking, and collection matters. His previous experience includes family law matters such as divorce, child custody, and child support.
In 2019, Josh was appointed by the Mobile Judiciary and Alabama Administrative Office of Courts as a Sitting Special District Court Judge for the Mobile County District Court, where he reviews docketed cases in preparation of successful trials and adjudicates numerous District Court matters to judgment as needed.

- After winning dismissal of most the plaintiff’s claims on motion to dismiss, reached favorable settlement in False Claims Act lawsuit against physician practice alleging overutilization, unnecessary medical procedures, and Anti-Kickback Law violations
- Represented specialty pharmacy being investigated by Mississippi Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. No action taken against client.
- In mediation with the government before the qui tam complaint was unsealed, reached favorable settlement of False Claim Act lawsuit against physician practice that included claims under the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, for alleged breach of numerous Medicare and Tricare regulations and retaliation.
