Intro

Alan has more than 35 years of experience representing health care providers and lawyers in the defense of professional liability claims. As a member of the firm at Helmsing Leach, Alan has tried over 50 jury trials to verdict.

Active in the Mobile, Alabama community, Alan has served as president of the University of South Alabama Alumni Association and as chair of the university’s Mitchell College of Business Executive Council and capital fundraising committee. He has also served as a board member and past president of Camp Rap-A-Hope Children’s Oncology Summer Camp and the Exploreum Children’s Museum of Discovery.

With 38 years of experience as a trial lawyer, Alan is an expert on hospital/medical liability issues, health care risk management, witness effectiveness, and health care fraud and abuse. His professional affiliations include the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Defense Research Institute, and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, where was the chairman of the personal injury section, a member of the board of directors, and president of the 1200-member organization. Alan has tried many cases of note. In 2005, he represented a local hospital and national healthcare organization in a False Claims Act case that was ultimately decided in favor of his clients by the Supreme Court of the United States. J. Edward Walters v. Daughters of Charity National Health System, cert denied, 543 U.S. 1052.
