Case Pipes Elected VP Of Associate Board Of Petroleum and Convenience Marketers of Alabama

Casey Pipes was elected Vice President of the Petroleum and Convenience Marketers of Alabama (PCMA) Associate Board for 2017.  The PCMA is the advocacy group for the convenience store and motor fuel retailer industry in Alabama.  The Associate Board is comprised of people who serve the C-store industry, such as fuel distributors, food and beverage distributors, and service providers.  Mr. Pipes’ connection with the PCMA is his representation of numerous C-store owners and tenants in land condemnation actions throughout Alabama.  The Associate Board helps raise money for and oversee the PCMA Educational Foundation which provides college scholarships to employees and family members of employees who work in the C-store industry.  For more information, please visit pcmala.org.

For many years, Helmsing Leach has encouraged its attorneys and staff members to make an annual contribution to United Way, a network of community-based groups that raises billions of dollars every year to support programs benefitting local communities, including Mobile and its surrounding areas.  The firm’s 2016 donation to the organization was $11,040.00 the organization.

Warren Herlong Presents On Eminent Domain Law To Alabama Probate Judges

Firm member Warren Herlong recently gave a presentation to the Alabama Probate Judges Association titled, “An Overview of Alabama Eminent Domain Law – What Every Alabama Probate Judge Should Know.”  The presentation,  part of a seminar sponsored by the Alabama Law Institute at the University of Alabama School of Law, was attended by the probate judges for all of Alabama’s 67 counties, along with their staff.

Kirk Mattei Completes Coastal Alabama Leadership Program

Helmsing Leach associate Kirk Mattei recently completed the Coastal Alabama Partnership’s (CAP) regional leadership program.  CAP was founded at the recommendation of Governor Riley in the wake of the BP oil spill to advocate and undertake strategic planning for Mobile and Baldwin counties.  As a member of CAP’s first “Coastal Civic Masters Program,” Kirk was part of a small group of area leaders tasked with developing a regional leadership coalition to advocate for economic development, environmental sustainability, and improving the quality of life in coastal Alabama.

Patrick Finnegan Speaks At E-Discovery Seminar

Helmsing Leach partner Patrick Finnegan was a member of the faculty of a day-long seminar on electronic discovery hosted in Mobile earlier this month by the National Business Institute.  In his presentation, Mr. Finnegan provided a comprehensive overview of the e-discovery process — from litigation holds and preservation through production — with a detailed focus on the technical aspects of the process, and discussion of relevant rules and case law.

Casey Pipes to Speak at San Diego Eminent Domain Law Conference

Mr. Pipes is a member of the faculty for the American Law Institute’s Eminent Domain and Land Valuation Litigation conference which will take place in San Diego, California, January 26-28, 2017.  He will co-present a talk titled, Exhibits in Eminent Domain: How to Make a Persuasive Case.  Mr. Pipes has been practicing eminent domain law for two decades, and is one of Alabama’s leading practitioners in the field.
